UPDATE: FAILURE OF RAND WATER’S H29 PIPELINE
Rand Water experienced a failure on its H29 pipeline in the Andeon area, Pretoria this morning. The line has been dewatered and the team are currently busy with repair works. It is envisaged that the repair work will be completed later tonight.
Thereafter, the line will be charged with water and consumers will be progressively brought online from tomorrow (Thursday, 6 August 2020). Rand Water has water tankers on standby to support critical consumers and those areas that may have a prolonged water outage.

PLANNED SHUTDOWN OF J6 PIPELINE 30-31 July 2020
Rand Water will be decommissioning and removing 1.5 km of a failed portion of the old J6 pipeline that has been in service for 70 years. The portion of the pipeline forms part of the network that supplies the City of Ekurhuleni, the City of Johannesburg and the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipalities.

RAND WATER AND THE SOUTH AFRICAN MEDICAL RESEARCH COUNCIL SIGN A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
Rand Water (RW) and the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Water and Health, paving the way for an important partnership to benefit public health in South Africa. While initial RW-SAMRC discussions were spurred by a mutual aspiration to contribute to halting the spread of COVID-19 in South Africa, both institutions recognise that their partnership responds to appeals by international institutions such as the World Health Organization (WHO) for collaborations between development and health sectors to improve public health.
RAND WATER HAS SCHEDULED A PLANNED SHUTDOWN OF ITS PIPELINE
The E11 pipeline feeds the network on the south-western part of the Merafong Local Municipality. The planned shutdown is scheduled for 20 hours from 18 to 19 July 2020, and will allow for the extension to 700mm diameter from the current 400mm diameter of the pipeline.
Water supply to consumers in the following areas will be interrupted:
Merafong Local Municipality (Elandsrand Mine, Elandsrand Township and Deelkraal properties

RAND WATER INTERVENES IN THE PROVISION OF POTABLE WATER INFRASTRUCTURE TO SCHOOLS
Rand Water is a proud partner of the Department of Basic Education’s national return to school programme and to ensure safe and clean water for those school communities in need. We have a long-standing commitment to serving our communities that now includes partnering with government in the fight against COVID-19. We have heeded the call by President Ramaphosa for increased partnerships, solidarity, collaboration and the sharing of knowledge and experience to fight the pandemic. After, the Department of Water and Sanitation situated the national COVID-19 Command Centre for Water and Sanitation at Rand Water at the end of March 2020, we have successfully distributed and installed 7 594 tanks in water-stressed communities throughout the country.
